Back in the day, Budapest may have been skipped over for more ‘exciting’ cities in Europe. Nowadays, Budapest is a popular stag do destination, and is a city welcoming anyone who wants to have a good time. The capital city of Hungary is a vibrant metropolis which has been named the ‘Paris of the East’.
Here’s how to make sure your time here is truly unforgettable.
Party at a Festival
Budapest hosts its fair share of exciting cultural festivals throughout the year, and those looking for a good time will be at all of them. That being said, it’s guaranteed that we’ll see you at the famous Sziget Festival. Taking place in August every year, Sziget features tons of events, concerts, food, and opportunities to sleep under the stars.
It’s really all you could ask for in a festival…and don’t forget the booze!
Can You Say “Museums?”
Budapest is full of museums. You can’t walk from one street to the next without seeing one. “Alright,” you must be thinking. “How does having-a-kick-ass-time and visiting museums go hand-in-hand?” Well, think of it this way: there’s a museum for every interest out there.
Check out the House of Terror to see where Nazis jailed prisoners during the war, go to the Hopp Museum of Asian Art if you want to see some magnificent pieces, or even head to the Museum of Medieval Judaism while you’re at it. Basically, if you get bored, there’s always another right down the road.
Pick a few you like, and you’re guaranteed a great time.
Have a Drink at a Wine Pub
While many people who travel to Europe are excited to explore the pubs, clubs, and cafes, nothing beats the wine bars of Budapest. Wine bars are fairly unique to Budapest, and if you go, you’ll be sure to have a one-of-a-kind experience. The best part about these borozos? You can get drunk without putting too much of a dent in your wallet, as the prices at these places are ridiculously cheap.
See an Authentic Hungarian Performance
Going out to the cinema is still very much a thing here in Budapest. If you like something cool and different, this option is for you. When you get the cinema, expect nice cafes, pubs and delicious restaurants to go with the whole scene. If you don’t know Hungarian, head to Cinema Muvesz, which shows contemporary film pieces, occasionally with English subtitles. The entire experience will be relaxing and enjoyable.
Enjoy a Traditional Bath
Let it be known that Budapest is home to some of the most famous thermal baths in the entire world. Unlike other destinations where you might have to travel far, hike, or spend an exorbitant amount of money to get into the baths, in Budapest, everything is nearby and affordable. Most baths are mixed gender, too, so it doesn’t matter if you come with a group of gals and guys!
Budapest is the perfect destination for travelers who want to have fun, but don’t mind seeing the cultural side of things while they’re here.
